Lynxsol Approach

Driving Growth Through Technical SEO and Search-Friendly Map Content

Semrush Site Audit showing The Dungeon Geek's Site Health at 92% and AI Search Health at 84% after SEO improvements.

Our SEO strategy for The Dungeon Geek focused on one primary goal: helping game masters, Google, and AI search platforms easily discover the right battle maps and creature resources for their gaming sessions.

We began by addressing the website’s technical SEO issues. The September 23 audit identified 90 errors, all of which were resolved within six days. Our team repaired 81 broken internal links, corrected pages returning 4xx errors, and restored access to pages that search engines previously could not crawl. As a result, Site Health increased from 84% to 92% by September 29, 2025.

The next step involved improving how the website’s pages appeared in search results. We reduced excessively long title tags from 53 to 3, allowing map and creature titles to appear more completely without being cut off. Pages missing meta descriptions also decreased from 22 to 6. At the same time, Crawlability and Internal Linking scores both increased from 90% to 97%, making it easier for search engines to navigate between related maps, creatures, and adventure resources.

For content optimization, we focused on how game masters search for resources. This included searches by setting (jungle, volcano, dungeon), game system (D&D 5e, Pathfinder), adventure (Tomb of Annihilation, Isle of Dread, The Hydra’s Fang), and format (free, printable, VTT-ready). By improving the clarity and descriptions of map and creature pages, we helped Google better understand and display The Dungeon Geek’s content in traditional search results and Google Images, including searches for “fire elemental 5e” and “volcano dungeon map dnd”.

Alongside traditional SEO, we monitored the brand’s visibility across AI-powered search platforms. Google’s AI Overview for “dnd jungle maps” now references The Dungeon Geek as a source of free, VTT-ready jungle maps. Additionally, Semrush reported a 100% month-over-month increase in AI mentions of the brand in October 2026.

The Challenge

The Dungeon Geek faced competition from major platforms such as Pinterest, Roll20, Reddit, and D&D Beyond, as well as paid map creators, for search queries used by game masters.

Although the website offered valuable content, several technical SEO issues made it difficult for search engines to crawl, navigate, and understand its pages effectively.

  • 90 site errors, with a Site Health score of 84%.
  • 81 broken internal links.
  • 4 pages returning 4xx errors.
  • 53 excessively long title tags.
  • 22 pages without meta descriptions.
  • Strong competition in search results from established platforms and online marketplaces.

Our Strategy

Lynxsol created an SEO strategy centered on how game masters search for resources when planning their sessions, including searches based on settings, monsters, game systems, and adventures.
Our approach combined technical SEO, on-page optimization, and content visibility improvements to help individual map and creature pages compete across Google Search, Google Images, and AI-generated answers.
  • Resolve all identified audit errors before starting content optimization.
  • Fix broken internal links and pages returning 4xx errors.
  • Optimize lengthy title tags and add missing meta descriptions.
  • Improve internal linking between relevant battle map pages.
  • Focus on search queries related to settings, monsters, and adventures.

What We Implemented

We put the strategy into action through targeted website improvements that made The Dungeon Geek easier for search engines to crawl and its content more accessible to game masters.
  • Technical SEO: Eliminated all 90 site errors, including 81 broken internal links.
  • Titles & Meta: Reduced excessively long title tags from 53 to 3 and pages missing meta descriptions from 22 to 6.
  • Internal Linking: Improved the Internal Linking score from 90% to 97%.
  • Crawlability: Increased the Crawlability score from 90% to 97% and achieved a 100% Site Performance score.
  • AI Search Visibility: Improved AI Search Health from 81% to 84% while monitoring citations in Google’s AI Overviews.
